CTS Introduces Round Piezoelectric Wafers
 

Elkhart, IN…CTS Corporation (NYSE: CTS), a global leader in the design and manufacturing of ceramic piezoelectric (PZT) materials, wafers and components, today announced the release of the five-inch round piezoelectric wafer for industries utilizing silicon-processing technologies.

The 5.1 inch (130 mm) diameter wafer is available in various thicknesses down to .010 inch (0.25mm) and can be provided as-sliced or as a lapped wafer.  CTS also has the capability to provide nickel, nickel/tin or gold metalization to further enhance the value of the product.  The round geometry allows for the wafers to be further processed with typical silicon wafer processing technologies.  Manufacturers of micro-electromechanical (MEMS) devices will find the new round geometry facilitates the integration of bulk piezoelectric material with the etched features on the silicon wafer, thus reducing their manufacturing costs and improving the robustness of the finished device.  These five-inch round piezoelectric wafers enable the design and manufacture of MEMS devices that benefit from the large piezoelectric constants and coupling factors of bulk piezoelectric ceramic materials. In addition, the round design will facilitate photolithographic processes.

The new wafer is available in a variety of different PZT materials.  CTS PZT materials are well known for their machinability, repeatable electrical properties and reliability in the market place.  These wafers are produced using CTS’ proprietary process for high-volume manufacturing of high-density piezoelectric ceramic materials.
