The CTS Difference
Exceptional Thermal Performance
CTS leverages both cold-forge and stamp methods to manufacture heat sinks with fin densities much greater than traditional extruded heat sinks. Cold-forged heat sinks produce high fin densities for a surface area ~10–20% larger than extruded heat sinks whereas stamped heat sinks can offer ~10–40% greater surface area than extruded heat sinks.
Thermal coating on the surface of CTS heat sinks is a proprietary finish which enhances thermal radiation abilities. The thermal radiation coefficient of a coated heat sink is four times greater than that of a polished aluminum one. This results in a heat sink that performs ~5–15% better than the same heat sink without thermal coating. Color options for thermal coatings are black or white.
CTS also offers a heat pipe solution for larger, high-powered LED heat sinks. In these scenarios, a high-conductivity heat pipe is used to transfer heat from the COB hot spot to the tip of the fin, enhancing heat transfer by thermal radiation and natural convection. Additionally, CTS can manufacture solutions in which the heat pipe directly contacts the COB to further improve thermal performance.
The fin density of CTS’s heat sinks allows for a smaller, lighter design than comparable extruded heat sinks. This provides greater flexibility when designing the overall light fixture.
Thermal Engineering and Analysis Expertise
CTS can provide technical support by leveraging supplied CAD drawings to perform CFD simulations. CTS aims to assist customers in optimizing thermal designs in the early stages of their project to speed development times and avoid costly prototyping.
CTS offers both standard and custom solutions, including complete kits or standalone heat sinks for low-wattage indoor bulb lighting to high-power integrated heat pipe solutions. In all areas, CTS offers flexibility and ease of integration.
