FOR RELEASE: Immediately
Newport Networks selects CTS and the partnership
Alliance program
to accelerate time-to-market for new MediaProxy™ Gateway product
Elkhart, IN…CTS Corporation (NYSE:CTS), today announced that its Interconnect Systems business unit, and Pentair Enclosures Group Europe, a business unit of Pentair, Inc., as members of the cooperative partnership Alliance (Alliance) program, have delivered high-speed design and manufacturing services to Newport Networks - in support of its MediaProxy™ Interconnect Gateway new product introduction program. The successful first phase of Newport Networks’ 1460 MediaProxy development program demonstrates that backplane and chassis design/manufacturing are crucial core competencies of CTS and Pentair. The Alliance program was established by CTS in May 2001 to provide integrated, global EMS solutions to OEMs. In addition to CTS and Pentair, other Alliance members include PPC Electronic AG, WUS Printed Circuit Co., Ltd., Amphenol Interconnect Products Corporation and Eagle Global Logistics.
The Newport Networks’ 1460 MediaProxy is a carrier-class product with high levels of resilience and extensive redundancy that will satisfy carriers’ and service providers’ availability requirements. The 1460 MediaProxy was designed to meet the international standards expected by global carriers and service providers.
The mission of Newport Networks is to accelerate the commercial launch and reach of Internet Protocol (IP) telephony services to a global market. Newport Networks is developing the critical solutions that service providers need to sell commercially-viable managed voice and multimedia over IP services, to business and residential customers. Newport Networks’ new MediaProxy product enables service providers to deliver increased value to their subscribers.
CTS undertook the physical design and test of the high-speed, 26 layer backplane—running simulation along the entire interconnect path. The high-speed elements of the controlled-impedance backplane (up to and beyond 2.5Gbps per card) required routing signals through high-density connectors and pre-emphasis through silicon devices. Because of the complexity of the printed circuit board (PCB), Alliance partner PPC Electronic AG was also involved in the program—enabling backplane PCB fabrication using the most cost-efficient standard materials. Schroff UK, a subsidiary of Pentair Enclosures Group Europe, designed the chassis assembly, utilizing thermal simulations to calculate effective cooling solutions for the data storage and power supply subsystems.
Newport Networks chose to work with CTS and Pentair, leveraging the Alliance partners' expertise in backplane and chassis design and manufacturing capabilities, to reduce the time-to-market of Newport Networks' new MediaProxy product.
