CTS Corporation Offers a 5 mm x 7 mm SMT Quartz Crystal Oscillator Featuring LVPECL

Elkhart, IN…CTS Corporation (NYSE:CTS), a global supplier of quartz crystals and crystal oscillators for the communications and computer industries, today announced the introduction of CTS Model 635, a high frequency, quartz crystal oscillator incorporating LVPECL (Low Voltage Positive Emitter Coupled Logic) and manufactured using 5 mm x 7 mm surface mount technology (SMT).

LVPECL is the standard for high-speed, low-noise data transmission in noise-sensitive circuitry. Not only does LVPECL allow a higher frequency range than CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide
Semiconductor) or TTL (Transistor Transistor Logic), it also has a low-frequency range, providing customers with the capability to maintain the same logic throughout the system. CTS Model 635 is available at discrete frequencies ranging from 19.44 MHz to 212.50 MHz. Phase jitter is less than 1 picosecond. With this excellent jitter performance, operating systems will function efficiently without losing signal lock, and rapid rise and fall times of 0.4 nanoseconds also provide clean switching performance.

The ASIC-based, industry-standard 5 mm x 7 mm x 2 mm SMT package features a ceramic base with a seam weld cover. The lead-free package complies with European Directive 2002/95/EC, known as RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment), well in advance of the July 1, 2006 deadline, when lead and other hazardous substances will be banned from new electrical and electronic equipment. This product is also compatible with the higher temperature reflow processes required for lead-free solders.

Output enable is standard on CTS Model 635. This important function disables the oscillator output by shutting off the oscillator, which in turn saves system power. The wide operating temperature range of -40 ºC to 85 ºC makes it suitable for commercial and industrial applications. Model 635 is targeted to support storage network timing equipment, high and low speed workstations, and telecommunications and Ethernet equipment.

CTS Model 635 is available in tape and reel packaging. The price is volume dependent and also varies with frequency and temperature rating. Production quantities are available.
