CTS Awarded Eurostars Grant to Develop Lead-Free Next Generation Piezoelectric Material
Lisle, IL – CTS Corporation (NYSE: CTS) along with the strategic partner (Entekno Materials, Turkey), has secured funding from Eurostars for the development of “Environmentally Friendly Lead-Free Piezoelectric Ceramic Material.”
Eurostars is an EU-funded grant system for selected innovative product development, and only funds project with high commercial impact. Currently, virtually all commercially available piezoelectric ceramic materials are lead-based, and RoHS exemption on lead-based piezoelectric ceramic materials is at risk of future elimination. Initially funded through CTS’ internal innovation platform with continuation through Eurostars program, CTS will co-develop a class of lead-free piezoelectric ceramics that can potentially be a drop-in replacement for current lead-based systems.
Developed lead-free material will have target properties to achieve close to drop-in replacement of current lead-based piezoelectric materials. The project involves CTS Albuquerque and Kvistgård facilities’ collaboration and a strategic partnership with Entekno Materials. This project builds upon CTS’ past success in developing high-performance textured piezoelectric ceramic materials (for the defense market) to improve our strategic position in the commercial marketplace.
