CTS Launches Sulfur Resistant Chip Resistor Arrays Product Line
Lisle, IL – CTS Corporation (NYSE: CTS) announces the release of a new resistor network product line, S4x Series Sulfur Resistant Chip Resistor Arrays. The new series is specifically designed to function in a sulfurous environment without the reliability issues that plague many standard chip and chip array resistor products. Available in popular convex and concave package configurations, the new series supports standard EIA E-24 resistor values, optional ±5% ±2% or ±1% resistor tolerances and a temperature coefficient ±200ppm/°C over operating range -55°C to +125°C.
In standard products, when constantly exposed to high sulfur environments, the silver conductor connecting the printed resistor element to the termination, can corrode and form a layer of silver sulfide [Ag2S]. Over time the silver sulfide can crack the ceramic substrate or create a very high resistance path so the resistor connection electrically functions as an open circuit connection. The S4x Series design adds a protective layer between the silver [Ag] conductor and final epoxy cover coat layer. This barrier prevents the fusion of sulfur into the silver interface, preventing sulfide growth.
System reliability is critical in many of today’s electronic equipment and component failures can be costly to manufacturers, end customers and service consumers. Applications that operate in environments polluted with sulfur, where hard failures cannot be tolerated, the CTS S4x Series provides excellent electrical performance and a platform that resists corrosion, providing a longer operating life over conventional devices.
