Thermocouples produce temperature readings by utilizing the Seeback-effect which involves joining two metal or semiconductor materials with different temperatures in a closed loop. The temperature difference causes free electrons to move from one material junction to another, thereby generating a voltage that can be interpreted to measure temperature.
