An oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) utilizes an internal oven to keep its quartz crystal resonator at an ideal temperature. This results in the greatest possible stability and accuracy among all quartz-based oscillators, allowing certain OCXOs to meet the requirements for the Stratum 3E network time protocol standard. Keeping the quartz crystal sealed within the internal oven, OCXOs can also achieve lower phase noise as thermal stability will contribute to fewer crystal phase shifts that would otherwise degrade signal quality.

Oven-controlled crystal oscillators from CTS come with a wealth of options in terms of frequency range and stability, phase noise floor, temperature range, supply power, mounting configuration and size.
