What is a Hall-Shunt Module?
A Hall-shunt module is a device that combines a Hall current sensor and a shunt current sensor for redundant current sensing. These modules are typically developed to ensure a specific current is being maintained making them great options for automotive and industrial machinery.
The HSM-800 module provides highly accurate, redundant, and reliable current measurements by using Cu-Mn shunt-based current measurement and a fully redundant, galvanically isolated Hall sensor. Integrating two distinct sensing types within a single module reduces the likelihood of failure, making it more reliable and better suited for safety-critical applications. Additionally, the module is complemented with an ambient temperature sensor to determine the state-of-charge SOC, state-of-health SOH, and state-of-function SOF of modern battery-powered equipment.
How is CTS's current sensing module integrated?
The HSM-800 is mounted to a conductive material, such as a busbar, within a battery or electrical system. This module features the housing mounted on top of the busbar, or conductive material, containing the Hall sensor and connector. The optional temperature sensor is positioned adjacent to the housing, with the shunt connector wires secured along the side.
While the entire unit is typically housed on a busbar or similar equipment, the design is highly versatile and can be configured in various ways to suit a range of applications.
