Buzzers and Alerts
Piezoelectric buzzer technology offers the highest control of audible alert control through its superior fast response time to drive frequency requirements by the application. Piezoelectric technology is a cost effective solution in electromechanical acoustic & audio signaling devices. Piezoelectric electric buzzer elements are driven by an oscillating electronic circuit or other audio signal sources. Reliable piezoelectric buzzer devices are commonly found in applications requiring high reliability such as transportation, computer, security and fire notifications are found.
Standard CTS recommended piezoelectric materials for buzzers and alerts are 3195STD, 3203STD and 3222HD.
Displacements in mechanical hard disk drives are very small and require incredible precision. When used in addition to the primary motion provided by the voice coil motor (VCM), piezoelectric ceramic elements provide the benefits of extremely fast response times and overall greater system servo bandwidths than other secondary actuation approaches.
When voltage is applied to the MA, one piezo element expands as the other contracts and causes a slight controlled motion on the order of 20-100 nm of the read-write head. The stroke at the head element is very short short and the moving mass is small and light enabling the vibrational resonance frequency to be much higher than that of the VCM only controlled actuator. This means that a suspension with this secondary piezoelectric element control can rapidly and accurately position the head element over the correct data track with much greater precision and speed than a single stage actuation device.
